Stories as you walk. Every one sourced.
WayTold is an iPhone guide for slow days in Italy and Slovenia. Stand in front of the Duomo, press play, and hear four minutes on why a city spent a century building it. Every story shows where its facts came from. When you have a question, ask.
Brunelleschi's solution was constructed between 1420 and 1436 without a full wooden centering beneath the dome. That does not mean without scaffolds, machinery or careful support of work in progress. It means the masonry structure could rise without the enormous temporary wooden form that a visitor might reasonably imagine.
Every WayTold story is written from public sources, checked, then recorded. The sources sit one tap away in the app. Nothing is made up on the spot, and when you ask a question, the answer starts from the story you just heard.
One day, told
WayTold is built around a day, not a database. Plan it loosely in the morning, walk it slowly, and learn something at each stop.

8:40, over coffee
Plan loosely
Your trip is a few stays with dates. Each place is must see, if time, seen or skip, and gets a day. That is the whole plan.

11:15, on the way
Walk it
The map shows today's places and where you are. Tap a pin and walk there. Coffee and lunch stops sit on the same map, so there is nothing else to open.

11:40, at the stop
Listen, then ask
Press play and put the phone away. Four minutes on the sight, the city and the country. Read it instead if you prefer. Then ask what you are still wondering.
Why it is worth the walk
-
Sourced, not scraped
Each story lists the sources it was written from. Stories are the same every time; nothing is generated while you stand there.
-
Ask about what you just heard
Ask Cedar is a voice conversation that starts from the story you are listening to, in the same voice that told it. Interrupt, ask, carry on.
-
Works when the signal does not
Download a town and it comes with its street map, stories, photos and narration. Directions and Ask Cedar need a connection; everything else does not.
-
One trip, shared
Travelling as two? You see the same trip on your own phones. Tag a place for Thursday and it shows on the other phone within seconds.
-
Your assistant can help
Connect an AI agent over MCP and it can add a coffee stop or set a day on a place, in the same trip. It never sees your location.
-
Depth over breadth
A few places done properly, with three or four minutes each, rather than a thousand thin cities. More towns are written as we walk them.

Be first to walk with it
WayTold is in private testing on iPhone. Leave your email and we will write when there is a build for you, and not otherwise.
Questions
- When can I use it?
A small group is testing on iPhone through TestFlight now. Waitlist members are invited in order as towns and features are ready.
- Android?
Later, on the same trips and town packs. Sign up and say Android in the note so we know how many of you there are.
- What will it cost?
Not decided. The plan is a pass per trip rather than a monthly subscription, with an allowance of conversation minutes included.
- Is the narration AI?
The stories are written by people from public sources and recorded with an AI voice called Cedar. Ask Cedar is a live AI conversation, and it hears the story before you do, so its answers stay on the subject. Ask Cedar arrives in the iPhone app in a later build.
- What happens to my location?
It is shown on your own map while the map is open. It is never stored, and never sent to Cedar or to a connected agent.
- Who makes it?
WayTold is made by Forged, a small independent studio. It started as a guide we built for our own walks in Slovenia and Tuscany.
